The Ta’ang Political Consultative Committee (TPCC) and Ta’ang civil society organizations have called on the international community to take action against the Myanmar military council for violating international human rights and committing war crimes.

The joint call came after the regime’s army not only fired artillery but also carried out airstrikes during fighting that broke out Dec. 7 near Konethar village in Namhsan Township in northern Shan State.

On December 14, the TPCC strongly protested the airstrikes and called on the international military to take action against the Myanmar Army’s attack on the village with helicopters and fighter jets.

“We call on the international community to take action against the Myanmar military council as the bombardment of the village by the terrorist army with heavy weapons and airstrikes is a blatant violation of human rights as well as a violation of international human rights and war crimes.”

Similar incidents have continued in Kachin State, Chin State, Karen State, Karenni (Kayah) State, Arakan State, Sagaing and Magway Regions due to airstrikes or artillery shelling by the regime’s military, often resulting in deaths and the destruction of homes by fire.

Ta’ang civil society organizations are calling on the international community to take effective action against the junta army that is targeting the population.

“Not only in this area, but also throughout the country, the military council has often used helicopters and airplanes to carry out attacks. This has greatly affected the public. Since the junta has caused a lot of damage and casualties, we appeal to the international community to help us with what is happening in the Ta’ang area or in our country as a whole by all possible means, instead of just watching,” said a civil society organization worker in Ta’ang.

In addition, Ta’ang organizations called on the international community to impose further sanctions, including the importation of jet fuel that supports the military council.

“On the other hand, I would like to ask the international community to impose sanctions on the aviation fuel that is sold to the junta,” the official said.

Due to the artillery shelling and bombardment by the terrorist military, more than 2,000 residents of Konethar, Human, Pang Au Lu and Mang Long villages had to flee in fear to nearby villages in Namhsan Township.

According to TPCC, public property and religious buildings were also destroyed by the terrorist regime, some of which were burned down.

After the military coup, the military regime intensified the arrest, torture and killing of people in conflict areas across the country, using them as human shields, according to locals.

In addition, junta forces forcefully evicted residents, torched homes, shelled villages with artillery, and deliberately carried out airstrikes on civilian areas, locals and human rights groups said.

In light of the regime’s actions, several civil society organizations have called on the international community to stop standing by and take action to punish Myanmar’s military council as soon as possible.
