KSCC plans to regroup next year with members with no junta connection

The Karenni State Consultative Council (KSCC) conference will be held in early 2023.

The reconstituted council will be composed only of members who are willing to work actively and enthusiastically during the revolution.

“We will reconstitute the council with people who can throw themselves into the task and take a clear stance during the revolution. Some people tend to change sides depending on the situation. They want to serve this side, but what should we call it if they also want to serve the other side. I don’t know if we should call it ”surreptitious”. There are some who want to take that kind of role in the council. If they want to join us, they have to do so without a conflict of interest. They can also choose not to join. We have made that clear in our plan. So we will join with those who have no connection with the other side [the military council],” said Bishop Lee, a member of the current KSCC committee.

He added that the consultative body will elect 17 council members after the interim plan is approved at the upcoming conference.

The newly formed KSCC will take over the political role of Karenni State and then initiate the formation of the National Unity Government of Karenni State and advise the administration, legislature and judiciary of the state on its implementation, the KSCC statement said.

The KSCC was established on April 9, 2021 by ethnic resistance groups, political parties, parliamentarians who won the 2020 elections, social groups, and youth and women representatives
Within more than a year of its establishment, the National League for Democracy (NLD) and Kayan New Land Party (KNLP) also joined as members. However, they later requested to leave the council. After a joint discussion among the committee members, they were allowed to withdraw, KSCC committee member Mr. Kelly said.

“First the New Kayan Party withdrew, then the NLD. At the time of the NKP’s withdrawal, there were no official statements from the legal representatives about it. The NLD, on the other hand, made official announcements. After mutual discussions, they were allowed to officially resign. The KSCC and the NLD will continue with a strong alliance,” Mr. Kelly said.

Regarding the NLD’s resignation from the KSCC, Kantarawaddy Times contacted some of the NLD officials who participated in the KSCC, but they replied on November 29 that it was not opportune for them to respond.

Despite the NLD party’s withdrawal from the ethnic council, it is known that some NLD MPs continue to participate in the KSCC in an independent capacity.

Since the KSCC is composed of all revolutionary forces, Bishop Lee urged them to continue to work together on a clear path to the goal. “If we split up and follow different paths, we will not achieve our goal. If we want to achieve the political result we want, we must be clear and determined,” he said.

“If we split and go different ways, we will not achieve our goal. If we want to achieve the political result we want, we must be clear and determined,” he said,” said Bishop Lee.

The current KSCC has established committees for the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), health, education, finance, humanitarian aid, taxation, international relations, and security and defense. The 2023 conference will approve the interim plan.
