Five-year-old girl killed, eight injured by junta’s heavy shelling in Demoso

A five-year-old girl was killed and eight others including a nine-month-old child injured by the military council’s artillery shelling on a pre-school where the displaced family is taking shelter in the western part of Demoso Township in Karenni State on the evening of November 15.

“At 5.30 pm yesterday, three heavy shells landed consecutively. The first shell landed in front of the school. The second shell landed near the exit. The family members told the father to go outside. However, the father told them not to go outside. The last shell landed on the roof and hit all family members,” a local man said.

“Nine family members were sleeping near a pre-school. The heavy shelling hit all family members. Four people are in critical condition. Five people got minor injuries. A five-year-old child who was seriously injured died of severe bleeding on the way to hospital.

The child’s father was seriously injured. Three people who were seriously injured in the shelling are hospitalized,” a local said.

This family is taking shelter at the pre-school due to the fighting in Konethar village in Demoso Township. The heavy shells were fired by the military council’s Light Infantry Battalion-102 in Demoso Township, according to locals.

One civilian was killed and 20 civilians injured by the military council’s artillery shelling in Karenni State during the period from November 1 to 15, according to the Karenni-based Kantarawaddy Times.
