More than 30 Kyaiklat locals arrested after the shooting of military informant

The military council arrested 35 locals during three days after the shooting of Khaw Lay, leader of military-backed PyuSaw Htee (people’s militia) on 19th Street in Kyaiklat Township in Ayeyarwady Region, according to locals.

The military checked the overnight guest list and arrested locals at night shortly after the shooting. The military also arrested passersby. The National League for Democracy (NLD) supporters from Myo Ma ward,” a local from Kyaiklat said.

From around 8 pm on November 10 till the morning of November 11, the military council inspected and arrested passersby following the shooting.

Military informant Khaw Lay was shot near Seeseinshin restaurant on 23rd Street in Kyaiklat Township. He got gunshot wounds to his chest, thigh and arm as he wore a bulletproof vest, the person close to the police force said.

Khaw Lay is an organizer of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (UDSP) and a companion of Major Ye Min.

“Kaw Lay did not die in the shooting as he wore a bulletproof vest. Two gunshots hit his chest. He was unconscious due to fear. He also got gunshot wounds to his thigh and arm. Currently, he is hospitalized as an inpatient, a local says.

Acting on the tip-off by Pyu Saw Htee leader Khaw Lay, the military council arrested most of the people in Kyaiklat.

Ayeyarwady Urban Military Operation In-charge said Khaw Lay was shot as he extorted money from the vessels and locals in Kyaiklat Township every day.

On November 11, Ayeyarwady Urban Military Operation In-charge said he was shot as a Nan Htike Aung operation of Ayeyarwady military command.

The defense force has warned that it will take action against those who oppress the public and military-backed departments in an attempt to step up its urban military operations in Ayeyarwady Region, according to the statement.
