Many children aged below five from the Internally Displaced People (IDP) camp in the east of Demoso of Karenni State are suffering runny nose, cough and fever due to seasonal change.

“Some big families have no sufficient blankets and jackets. They have fever and cough at night. The displaced parents are unable to take care of their children as they are working in crop harvesting to earn their income,” said Daw Lu Siyar, health staff from an IDP camp.

“During this winter season, the major difficulty is a shortage of medicine. Due to seasonal change, the majority of children are suffering from running nose, cough and fever. We need medicines, jackets and trousers for children,” a female volunteer teacher from the school said.

The IDPs are in need of jackets, medicines and teaching aid. That IDP camp has around 30 children aged below five.

They have been living at that IDP camp for more than one year. As they have no income, volunteers and teachers who have joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) are facing difficulties.
