Military council soldiers have continued to arbitrarily arrest residents and use them as guides during their military advance in Htilin Township in Magway Region, locals told Than Lwin Times.

After arresting people, regime soldiers no longer detain them in police stations but take them as guides during their military advance.

“This month alone they have arrested six people. Four of them are not detained in the police station. They must have been taken as guides for their advance. They have done that in the past and released them later. Last night, the junta soldiers again arrested two people, including an executive member of the NLD party,” a Htilin resident told Than Lwin Times.

Military council soldiers had also abducted two women in September and only returned their bodies after more than 15 days.

Regime forces have frequently arrested Htilin residents and demanded ransoms for their release, but more than 10 people have not been freed.

Since the military coup in Myanmar, a total of 2,424 people have been murdered by junta soldiers and 16,116 people have been arrested.
