Due to the mounting tension between the Arakan Army (AA) and the military council in Paletwa Township in Chin State, people from three villages including Tharyarkone village have fled to Meezar village, according to a pastor from Paletwa who is helping refugees.
“They move to safer places as they fear the fighting. Fighting has not erupted yet. The AA is on the other bank of the village. We fear that the roads will be blocked when fighting erupts,” a pastor said.
The people from Tharyarkone, Kyaukpalla and Settharlawa villages have fled to Meezar village.
There are 45 households and more than 200 populations in Tharyarkone village located about four miles from Meezar village, 30 households and around 100 populations in Kyaukpalla village and 15 households and around 50 populations in Settharlawa village.
The IDPs who fled to Meezar village are in need of emergency tents, the pastor said.
“Currently, they have no house to live in. We need around 300 bamboos to build a house. We need around 200,000 MMK to build a house. Our church association has donated around 1,000,000 MMK. But that amount is not enough. We need at least 10,000,000 MMK to build the houses for households,” the pastor said.
Currently, the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are taking shelter at the houses of their relatives, churches and boarding houses in Meezar village and are in need of rations.
Following the renewed fighting between the AA and the military council in Paletwa Township, locals from Paletwa Township have fled to downtown Paletwa. Currently, more than 5,000 IDPs are taking shelter in the downtown area.
