The Junta’s Airstrike Which May Lead to Mass Killings. – Issue 77

The public has experienced different forms of violence committed by the military council during the 634 days of the coup. As a result of the coup, hundreds of thousands of people in Myanmar have become internally displaced persons (IDPs). Thousands of civilians have been killed and many civilian houses burned down due to the junta’s actions.

We notice the situation whereby the junta troops can no longer set foot safely in many areas across the country as public support for the military council troops, working under the command of Senior General Min Aung Hlaing who is trying to legitimize the coup, has waned significantly.

Therefore, the junta and its cohorts frequently bank on the use of airstrikes which is their only advantage. On October 23, the military council’s airstrike in Hpakant Township in Kachin State resulted in hundreds of casualties. The BNI – Myanmar Peace Monitor’s (MPM) weekly news review for this week highlights the military council’s airstrikes.
