There are growing concerns among locals from Hpa-An and Myawaddy Townships in Karen State as the military council’s jet fighters are flying at night.
On October 21, a combined force of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) attacked the junta troops in Kawkareik Township. In response to the attack, the military council conducted airstrikes. Locals from Hpa-An, are concerned as currently the military council’s jet fighters are flying in the sky.
“I have seen jet fighters very often. But I saw a lot of jet fighters when the fighting took place in Kawkareik. Yesterday the military council tightened inspections in Hpa-An. I am worried as my parents, relatives and friends are living in Kawkareik. I could not call them on the first day of the battle. There was an explosion in downtown Myawaddy recently. Recently, a military convoy was seen downtown,” a local from Hpa-An told the KIC.
The military conducted airstrikes in Kawkareik Township for three consecutive nights. The villagers have fled to safer places. Currently, they are facing ration and accommodation difficulties, according to locals.
