The Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) is trying to implement three basic principles of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA)—to solve political problem by political mean, to hold all-inclusive and meaningful political dialogues and to give protection to the civilians, according to the PPST’s statement on the 7th Anniversary of the NCA signing which falls on October 15.
Till date, the PPST is trying to implement three basic principles of the NCA to enable the public to escape from the crisis as the principles of the NCA cannot be implemented fully, according to the PPST’s statement issued on October 14.
Saw Kyaw Nyunt, Spokesperson of the PPST said: “The PPST has set three points before. Since the coup, we have picked these points from the principle of the NCA. We have adhered to these points to solve Myanmar’s political crisis.”
Since the coup till date, the PPST has not discussed three points with the military council yet. The current separate talks mainly focused on the topic titled peace, Saw Kyaw Nyunt said.
The 7th anniversary of the NCA signing between the former government, the Tatmadaw and the Ethnic Resistance Organizations (EROs) will be held in Nay Pyi Taw. The groups which have signed the NCA will attend the meeting, according to the PPST’s statement.
The PPST gave a reason that the PPST members are required to attend the ceremony as the military council invites the heads who signed the NCA and organizations separately.
The PPST believes that the NCA can reduce the conflicts which may lead to civil war and is the one which can initiate the local peace process, aspired by the people based on the principle of solving the political problem by political means.
Following the coup, the Karen National Union (KNU) withdrew from the PPST formed with 10 EROs which have signed the NCA. Currently, the military council is holding separate peace talks with the EROs.
