Military council soldiers have reportedly seized a vehicle at a checkpoint in Shwebo that was donated by a donor to a Chin social aid group in Kale Township and has not yet been returned.

The group had a driver to take a Toyota Alphard that had been purchased in Yangon with a donor’s donation.

The car was confiscated by junta soldiers on the way back to Kale at the checkpoint at the entrance of Shwebo, a member of the Chin social aid group said.

“The inspector (a junta soldier) asked the driver if he was Chin or Bamar. He replied that he was Bamar. The soldier told him that if he was a Chin, he would kill him on the spot, and that all Chin were rebels. He asked the driver why he was driving the rebel car and if he had any connections to underground rebels. The soldier asked the driver to go back to Monywa and forced him to leave the car behind,” said the social support group member.

The military council soldier confiscated the car, even though it had a registration certificate from the Road Transport Administration Department.

Although the group members reported the case to the relevant authorities on the sixth day after the seizure and asked for the return of the car in downtown Shwebo, it has not been returned until today.

“We are a social aid group that helps everyone, regardless of race or religion. No matter what government has ruled in Myanmar, it has always made exceptions for vehicles that belong to social aid groups. We have been using the cars in this way for many years. The donor did not donate them because he has surplus money, but because he donated them of his own free will. It saddens me that the car was confiscated. We have no right to say anything. I feel sorry for the donor,” he said.

The soldier who confiscated the car at Shwebo gate is said to be a three-star police officer named Sithu.
