Man killed and her wife injured in mine explosion in Tedim

A 50-year-old man died in a mine explosion and his wife was seriously injured in Sakawlan ward in Tedim Township in Chin State, at around 9 pm on October 3.

“The mine exploded in front of their house. The man died on the spot. His wife is seriously injured. She is in critical condition. The explosion took place near the place within a walking distance from No.269 Battalion.

He is of Bamar race. He has been living here since childhood. I have seen him before,” a local from Tedim said.

The mine explosion occurred in front of Daw San Cho restaurant under No.269 Battalion in Sakawlan ward in Tedim Township. Locals have assumed that the landmine is planted by the military council.

The injured woman is admitted to the 100-bed military hospital in Kalay.

On October 1, U Byat Kyone, 30, from Htar ward in Hakha Township lost his left leg as he stepped on a landmine while going to the forest to find vegetables.

According to the Chin Human Rights Organization, at least 10 locals were injured in the landmine explosions in Chin State, following the coup.
