The military council reportedly arrested Dr. Win Naing Soe of Nga Pa Thone Station Hospital on September 27th.
His arrest came after Dr. Kyaw Thura Tun, a dentist from Taungup, was arrested by regime soldiers on September 6th.
Dr. Win Naing Soe was arrested when a motorized boat carrying medical supplies for the cottage hospital was stopped and seized by junta soldiers.
“The boat was loaded with medical supplies. It was his medical supplies. The junta [soldiers] seized it. They confiscated the medicine and kidnapped the doctor for interrogation. They have not released him yet,” the source said.
Some reports said he was arrested on his way to the capital, Sittwe, to settle a matter involving the confiscation of his medical supplies.
Regime soldiers released the motorboat on September 28th, but the doctor remained in police custody.
At the time of his arrest by members of the junta navy, Dr. Win Naing Soe was on his way from Sittwe to Myebon on September 25th with the medical supplies for the hospital as he approached Taung Phoo village in Pauktaw Township.
People close to him expressed concern that it is still not known where he is being held.
Dentist Kyaw Thura Tun from Taungup, who is currently under arrest, was charged under Section 17 (1) of the Unlawful Associations Act on September 25th.
In addition, Dr. Nay Lin Htwe, a 35-year-old township doctor from Myebon, was found dead in his room in the hospital compound for suspicious reasons. His death has raised suspicions that the junta is behind the case.
