Military council’s shelling in Konethar village in Loikaw Township, Karenni State reportedly killed a 55-year-old woman in her home and seriously injured two others at around 3:30pm on September 27th.

“The artillery shell hit the woman so hard that even her intestines came out. It was so bad. She was with her husband when she was hit by the shell. Another case is an elderly woman. Her husband is now receiving emergency treatment. And another person was also seriously injured,” said an official from KNDF B-02.

According to reports, the artillery shells were fired indiscriminately by the regime’s 250th and 422nd battalions stationed in Loikaw.

One artillery shell hit Konethar village, one near the church in Warsaung village and another at a two-story house in Wari Taung Chay village.

Combined forces of the local Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF) attacked the military council’s camp at Kayantharyar Junction with snipers between 10am and 1pm the previous day, killing six junta soldiers. After coming under fire, the military council troops fired back indiscriminately with light and heavy weapons.

Currently, some residents from neighbouring villages in the Konethar village tract are returning home after the fighting forced them to flee.

“I’m not so sure about that. Some have already returned to their homes. But some have not returned yet. They ran into financial difficulties after having to flee the war for a long time. When the fighting cooled down, some of them may have returned home to plant rice and do their farm work,” the official said.

It is reported that the battalions of the military regime were still firing artillery until this morning. In Karenni State, junta forces are firing heavy artillery indiscriminately from their camps, causing deaths and damage to houses.

According to data collected by Kantarawaddy Times, a total of 12 civilians were killed in Karenni State between September 1st and 27th.
