Myanmar’s military council troops temporarily stationed in Bawapin village in Dawei Township, Taninthayi Region, have reportedly shot dead a former monk and dumped his body in a garbage dump, according to residents.
Prior to the incident, more than 100 residents of the village were arrested by junta troops. After they were released, villagers noticed that one of them was missing and went in search of him. They found his body with bullet wounds in the garbage dump at the entrance of the village.
“The victim was a former monk from our village. He was arrested by the junta soldiers and forced to act as a guide. I didn’t think they would do this to him,” said a 45-year-old villager who was among those arrested by the junta soldiers.
The villager killed by the regime soldiers is U Kyaw Moe, 50.
The military council troops entered Bawapin village on September 6th and arrested more than 100 villagers. They remained in the village for about a week and left for Dawei on the evening of September 14th.
During their presence in the village, the military council soldiers arrested and tortured youths in the village. They also looted stores and houses and took food, beer and household appliances, according to residents.
The regime’s troops, who entered Bawapin village on September 6th, also clashed with the local People’s Defense Forces (PDF).
