Three women who are being interrogated at No.285 Battalion of the military council for alleged links with the People’s Defense Force (PDF) are not allowed to meet their family members, according to locals.
On September 8th, the military abducted 12 civilians from Makyeekone, Khamaungtaw villages and some wards in downtown Palaw in Myeik District and took them to No.285 Battalion. They are not allowed to meet their family members for five days.
A 40-year-old man from Khamaungtaw village said: “The military arrested two girls for alleged links with Palaw PDF while they were having snacks in the village. The families are worried.”
On September 10th, the military released nine detained men. The military continues to detain a 60-year-old woman from Palaw, Ma Mee Aye, 18 and Ma Moe Moe Phyo, 20 from Khamaungtaw village. The detainees are not allowed to meet their family members,” a relative of the detainee said.
No.285 Battalion-based in Palaw is located near Khamaungtaw village and Magyeekone village.
The military council is unable to conduct military activities in the Karen National Union (KNU)-controlled liberated areas as the soldiers face frequent ambush attacks on the Myeik-Palaw road section.
Since the previous three months, the military has been carrying out the arrests of villagers and the extorting of money from them.
