Locals from the west of Banmauk have fled to Homanlin Township, according to locals.

“Our village has more than 40 students and their parents. Most of the locals are taking shelter in Bokone Chaungkwa,” Daw Khin Hla Win, a local from Thaphankone village said.

Currently, a plan is under way to teach 17 novices and five students in Thaphankone village.

“The monastery takes responsibility for breakfast and lunch. We have to cook food for dinner. At present, the village has to provide necessary assistance, Daw Khin Hla Win added.

The exact number of the IDPs is still unknown as they are taking shelter at the houses of their relatives and friends.

Since August 20th, tension mounts between the Karenni Independence Army (KIA)/the People’s Defense Force (PDF) and the Shanni Nationalities Army (SNA) in western areas of Banmauk Township. Fighting is likely to intensify at any time although there are no clashes, according to locals.
