Political prisoners in Myeik prison face more oppression than other prisoners, some political prisoners who are recently released from the prison.
On September 9th, around 30 political prisoners including poet Maung Yu Paing—24 males and six females—were freed from Myeik Prison in Myeik District after having served their prison sentences, a family member of a political prisoner said.
A 30-year-old prisoner who was released said: “The persons who were convicted of drug cases and other cases and prison warders oppress political prisoners. Political prisoners have to do false eyelash production for many hours.”
The military arrested youths and the people who protested against the coup and charged them under Section 505 (a) and Section 145. They were sentenced to two years each in prison in Myeik prison.
The political prisoners who have got long-term prison sentences are not included in the list.
Some freed prisoners said that the prison authorities warned them not to get involved in politics after having been freed from the jail.
On September 1st, 19 prisoners—18 males and one female—were released from Myeik prison.
