No one interested in military council post in Ye District in Mon due to security concerns – MUP

August 23rd, 2022

No one has shown interest in applying for a vacant post of Mon State Administration Council member in Ye District due to the current security situation, Naing San Tin, secretary of the Mon Unity Party (MUP), told Mon News Agency.

“At the moment, our party accepts cooperation [with the Mon State Administration Council], but we are unable to find suitable candidates. It is not easy to serve in this area. We can’t be a member of the council because it is not possible for us to find a candidate,” he said.

The Ministry of Home Affairs under the military council announced the restructuring of Ye and Kyaikto townships into districts in Mon State on April 30th this year. Then, the general administrative departments of Ye and Kyaikto districts were formally opened in the respective townships on July 1st.

Security has been tightened in Ye Township because of frequent shootings, a local said.

“They dare not stay because of frequent shooting at government officials in the township. Security is very tight. There are guards even near the offices. But they dare not stay because government employees are shot,” he said.

On August 3rd, the Ye Balu – a guerrilla resistance group – entered the Ye township immigration office and shot dead two immigration employees and a civilian.
