The military council has no desire to solve the ongoing armed resistance caused by the coup through a dialogue, General Saw Mutu Say Poe, Chair of the Karen National Union (KNU) said in his address at the ceremony to mark the 72th Anniversary of Karen National Martyrs’ Day which falls on August 12th.
“The stance and undertakings of the military group which illegally seized the country’s power show no signs of seeking the solution to the political problems through the fair discussion on the armed resistance” he said.
“Since February 1sth, 2021, the military has staged a coup. It is obvious that the military council has no desire to solve the political problem and build up the country based on the federal democracy principles, for local peace-making and development,” he added.
After the military staged a coup on February 1st, 2021, the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), the interim National Unity Government (NUG) and the PDFs emerged through anti-coup protests.
The military council has officially declared these organizations as the terrorist organizations and it would not hold the talks with them. However, the military council said it would hold the talks with the Ethnic Revolutionary Organizations (EROs.)
Currently, fighting is taking place between the revolutionary forces which defy the coup and the military council in almost all regions and states.
During the armed conflict, the military council is committing the violations of human rights such as the airstrikes on the civilian targets, the arrests and killings of locals, sexual violence, the burning of houses, the locals and the human rights organizations said.
The military council is using the military and violent means by turning a blind eye to the international’s demands as it has no desire to solve the current political problems by peaceful and political means.
“Although the UN, the ASEAN and the world countries have called on the military council to solve local problems by peaceful means, the military fails to implement it.
The KNU constantly called for solving the political problem which is the armed conflict by political means.
As the successive governments and military systems, which adhere to chauvinism, did not make efforts for the correct path of politics, they always chose armed violence means, he continued.
