The Arakan Army (AA) detained Lt-Col Khaing Paw Lin from the Arakan Liberation Party (ALP) on August 2nd, according to the ALP’s statement.

The Narinjara asked U Khaing Aung Soe Than, Joint Secretary of the ALP whether the detention of Lt-Col Khaing Paw Lin is linked to politics.

“I heard the AA detained two persons—a youth who drives the motorbike and Sayar Khaing Paw Lin. It is highly likely that they will get arrested. But I don’t know it in detail. It is a bit early to say why they are arrested,” U Khaing Aung Soe Than said.

In its statement, the ALP said the AA arrested the ALP’s Central Executive Committee member Lt-Col Khaing Paw Lin and a grade-9 student, at around 6 pm on August 2nd. It should not happen between two Arakan organizations which are marching towards the same goal. In such a political crisis, it may undermine the dignity of Arakan people among the international community including ethnic allies. The ALP calls on the AA to avoid the undesirable acts which may destroy the national unity and demands the release of Lt-Col Khaing Paw Lin and a student including those detained before.

“Two or three youths from the AA arrested Lt-Col Khaing Paw Lin. It is assumed that the arrest may be linked to the judgments about the cases filed by some complainants including drug users at the office in Narzi village. Currently, the ALP is investigating the case. The AA has asked the AA about it,” U Khaing Soe Naing Aung said.

“I heard an unknown group of people arrested the ALP leader yesterday. It happened in Setyonesu ward,” the administrator of Setyonesu ward said.

The Narinjara has asked Khaing Thu Kha, Spokesperson of the AA about the case.

The AA detained and released Joint Secretary of the ALP Khaing Aung Soe Than.

On the morning of June 13th, a peace delegation led by Daw Saw Mya Yarzar Lin, Vice-Chair of the ALP met Commander-in-Chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing who is also the chair of the State Administration Council, at Bayintnaung Yeiktha in Nay Pyi Taw. The meeting was also attended by the ALP’s CEC members Colonel Khaing Soe Mya and Lt-Col Khaing Paw Lin.
