Two 12-year-old students were killed and three injured in the junta’s shooting at a vessel carrying the students in Paletwa Township in southern Chin State.
On August 2nd, the junta soldiers stationed at the jetty of Hnamatar village opened fire on a vessel carrying the students from Reemawa village when the students went home after the class at the school in Tonemawa village in Paletwa Township. Two grade-six students aged 12 were killed in the shooting, a local from Paletwa says.
Those killed in the shooting are the grade-6 students namely Maung Nay Min Tun and Maung Aung Than Myat from Reemawa village.
The injured are Maung Aung Lin Win, 12, Ma Khin Kyi Aung, 12, and general staff U Pa Du, 54.
The vessel carried at least 10 students. The injured were sent to the Paletwa Township People’s Hospital at around 7.30 pm on August 3rd.
The military council has tightened security of the vessels plying on Kaladan River, following a clash between the military council troops and the Arakan Army (AA) near Hnamatar village on August 1st
Tonemawa and Reemawa villages are located on the west bank of Kaladan River and are accessible by vessel within around one hour.
