The Myanmar military used a helicopter to open fire on a makeshift IDP camp in the Karen National Union (KNU) 5th Brigade area around 9:30 a.m. on July 29th, sources said.

It was reportedly a deliberate shelling by the coup regime, but no initial casualties were reported, the sources said.

“[The Myanmar military] fired the shots at 9:30 in the morning. I have not yet received details about the situation. I called the officials and inquired about the incident, and they said there was damage. But they did not ask much because they were busy after the attack on the camp. They confirmed that the junta’s military fired with a helicopter. They said the helicopter flew into the upper part of the area, where there is also a camp for IDPs. But I am not sure if the camp up there was also shot at from the helicopter,” the source told the Karen Information Center (KIC).

The IDP camp was attacked from the air for the first time this month. After the attack, three more aircrafts reportedly took off from Taungoo Air Base, the source added.
