A Catholic church was burned by the military council troops stationed in Dawnyaykhu village in Phruso Township in Karenni State at around 3 pm on June 15th.
“On June 14th, the military burned down more than four houses in Dawnyaykhu village. On June 15th, the military burned down the Catholic Church in the village for no apparent reason at around 3 pm,” an official of the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) says.
Since June 10 to 15, there has been intense fighting between the military council troops and the local defense forces in Hteepawso and Dawnyaykhu villages. The military suffered casualties while local defense force members were wounded.
Heavy shelling hit and destroyed one Baptist Church and one house in the fighting in Hteepawso village on June 12th. In addition, soldiers burgled and looted the houses in the village.
“Fighting is taking place here every day. The military council is carrying out an offensive here every day. Then, they entered the village. We are making resistance as they loot and burn the houses in the village. Fighting continues due to the resistance,” he continues.
Till June 15, the soldiers remain in Dawnyaykhu village. The military council is firing heavy weapons in Demawso Township every day.
Heavy shelling killed a civilian and wounded four in Ngayoe village in the west Demawso on June 10th and wounded three locals in Yusamoeso village on June 14th.
