Military arrests five women in Ngayokekaung in Ayeyarwaddy Region

One person was killed in a fighting between the military council troops and local People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) near Ngayokekaung beach town in Ngaputaw Township in Ayeyarwaddy Region on June 13th.

Fighting took place at around 9 am on June 13th.

The military council troops arrested a Karen man and used him as a guide. At 11 am on the same day, the military arrested the Kanyintaung PDF outpost, according to locals.

“Fighting erupted when the military council attacked the Kanyintaung PDF outpost located on the upstream of the stream near Ngayokekaung beach town and Sinngan village. There was an exchange of fighting for around one hour. The people feared as they heard the sounds of gunfire,” a local who declined to be named says.

One PDF member was killed and one arrested alive in the fighting. The military council seized one gun, he quoted the police news.

The person who was killed in the fighting is not the Karen detainee. He is a local farmer living near the stream. In addition, the military also arrested five women in Ngayokekaung, he continues.

There were no reports of casualties from the PDF. Two soldiers were wounded in the fighting. The military council troops fired heavy shells. The military could not seize the PDF outpost and had to withdraw from the area, a member of Ayeyarwaddy Revolution Force told the local media.

Till June 15th, around 100 soldiers, police and PyuSawHtee members are stationed near the stream in Ngayokekaung, according to locals.
