Fighting intensifies in Kyu Koke (Pan Saing) sub-township

Since around 10 am on June 1st, the fighting between the military council and a combined force of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) near Namkhaung ridge in Monepaw area in Kyu Koke (Pan Saing) sub-township in Muse District in northern Shan State, according to a person close to the frontline source.

“Kokang and Battalion-36 under the KIA’s Brigade-6 are combined. The incident took place in the villages in Namkhaung. The military’s Division-99 has around 150 members, the person who declined to be named, says.

The sounds of heavy weapons are heard till now. At around 3 pm on May 31th, fighting took place between the military council and a combined force of the KIA and the MNDAA, for around one hour. In the fighting, the military council troops fired heavy weapons into Mongfan village.

“The military fired five or six rounds of heavy shells into Mongfan village. In addition, the artillery unit from Muse 105th mile fired five rounds of heavy weapons to the place where the fighting took place, a local says.

Locals from nearby areas are worried that the fighting may intensify. They find it difficult to do farming, according to locals.

Since early 2022, there have been frequent fighting between the military council, the KIA and the MNDAA in the Monepaw region.

The military council, the military-backed people’s militia force, the KIA, the MNDAA-Kokang and the Northern Alliance are active in the Monepaw region.
