IDPs in Matupi Township in need of rations and medicine

May 17th, 2022

The refugees taking shelter in Ai Dut massif in Matupi Township in Chin State, face a shortage of food rations and medicine, according to a volunteer who is helping the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Ai Dut region.

“The IDPs are in need of food rations, medicine, health workers, waterproof sheets, blankets and mosquito nets. The IDPs fled to the forests since the first military column entered the village.

The IDPs were unable to bring the materials along with them. The soldiers stole them all. We are in difficult position.”

Since October last year, the people from the villages along Mindat-Matupi Road and Ai Dut massif have been taking shelter in the forests due to the fighting between the Chinland Defense Force (CDF)-Matupi and the military council troops.

Due to a shortage of medicine, six IDPs including an eight-year-old child died.

A volunteer who is helping the IDPs in Aintdut area said: “At present, the IDPs are facing a shortage of food rations. We cannot provide them as we have no fund. The IDPs have to share the food with others. Food rations may run out in the next week.”

The military council troops conducted an offensive in southern Chin State three times. The IDPs find it difficult to return to their home as the military columns burned down the houses in the villages along the road.

There are four IDP areas in Matupi Township. Ai Dut area has around 1,370 populations from Chanpyone (a), Chanpyone (b), Rantein, Hmontone and Hartu villages, according to the volunteers.
