The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA)-Kokang released eight out of 12 refugees recruited from Pan Law Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Kutkai Township in northern Shan State, the IDPs say.

At around 9 pm on May 15th, the MNDAA-Kokang entered the Pan Law IDP camp and recruited 12 refugees. At around 11.30 pm, seven of 12 detainees were released. This morning, one detainee was released at the request of the detainees.

The detainees are the Lisu. The MNDAA abducted and threatened them.

Two months ago, the MNDAA-Kokang held a meeting with the refugees at Pan Law IDP camp. The MNDAA called on the refugees to register the name of one man if a house has two men.

The arrest came after the refugees failed to register their names, the refugees say.

A refugee said: “Now the refugees from the IDP camp don’t dare to stay here as they fear. Men no longer stay at their homes. It is inconvenient for them to stay in the forests. At present, they are staying at the camp. We are worrying about the recruitment and arrests.”

The refugees have called on the MNDAA to release the detainees and avoid the recruitment of the refugees by understanding the difficulties being faced by the refugees.

There are four IDP camps including Pan Law IDP camp, in Mongylay village-tract in Kutkai Township in northern Shan State. Ta’ang, Lisu, Kachin and Chinese people are taking shelter at these IDP camps, the refugees say.
