The miliatry council troops burned down Saungnankhae village in Pekon Township on the Shan-Kayah border, at around 5 pm on May 16th, according to locals.
A local from the village near Saungnankhae village said: “I saw the smoke when the military torched Sannankhae village. It is located about 7 miles from here. The military started setting the village on fire at around 5 pm. At present, the people from the villages in the south have to be on alert. We are on standby to relocate. Some people have fled to safer places.”
At present, the locals from Saungnankhae village and nearby areas have fled to safer places.
There were some clashes in Saungnankhae village which has around 50 households.
An official of the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) B-03 said: “All the people have fled to safer places. Nanpawlon is located in the west of Saungnankhae. The people from Nanpawlon and Sinphyu villages are fleeing to safer places. A military column of Division-422 is marching to the village. In the afternoon, we went to the village to check the situation. However the military column has not arrived in the village. We have relocated the persons who are unable to move, to safer places.”
On May 15th, fighting took place between the military council, the Pa-O National Organization (PNO) and the Karenni local defense force in Aashay Inn village in Pekon. The miliatry council bombed the village. Both sides suffered casualties in the fighting.
