Coup leader Min Aung Hlaing’s invitation of the Ethnic Revolutionary Organizations (EROs) to the peace talks on April 22th is fake.

It aims to temporarily solve political, military, diplomatic and economic crises, according to the statement by the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC).

The military’s peace invitation for the activation of the military-drafted 2008 Constitution is legitimate.

In its statement, the NUCC pointed out that the military has been carrying out targeted attacks on the public in the successive era. The military tried to hamper the peace talks held from 2010 to 2020 and not to go beyond the 2008 Constitution.

Except for the National Unity Government (NUG) and the People Defense Force (PDFs), Coup leader Min Aung Hlaing invited Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) signatories, non-NCA signatories to the peace talks. Among NCA signatories, the Karen National Union (KNU), the Chin National Front (CNF), the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) refused to attend the military’s peace talk.

The news emerged that of ten NCA signatories, the Pa-O National Liberation Organization (PNLO), the Lahu Democratic Union (LDU), the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA), the Karen National Union/ Karen National Liberation Army-Peace Council (KNU/KNLA-PC), the All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF), the New Mon State Party (NMSP) and the Arakan Liberation Party (ALP) have not revealed officially whether they would attend the peace talk or not, except for the KNU, the Chin National Front (CNF) and the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS).

The Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) held a special meeting about the coup leader’s invitation to the peace talks, from May 6-7.

The NUCC denounced the military council’s invitation to the peace talk. The NUCC said it respected and recognized the EROs who rejected the invitation decisively.

The NUCC called on all political forces, the EROs, the revolutionary forces and organizations to be synonymous with the public and to continue to play their part in ending all dictatorships including the military dictatorship.

Established on March 8th, 2021, the NUCC includes around 28 groups such as the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) formed with elected candidates from the 2020 Elections, the EROs, political parties, the consultative councils formed after February 1st based on the states and races, the strike committee, civil servants who joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and the student union.
