In late April, the military council troops and military-backed organizations burned down more than 3,500 houses of the civilians across the country, according to the statement by the Data for Myanmar.
The military burned down more than 2,500 houses in Sagaing Region and more than 950 houses in Magway Region, according to the statement.
On May 2nd, the military council burned down houses in Inpat villages in KhinU Township in Sagaing Region, according to locals.
“The military burned down the houses in our village on May 2nd. Around 100 soldiers and three vehicles entered the village. The military first destroyed the school and clinic. In the afternoon, the military set the houses on fire. On May 1st, the soldiers arrived in the village. All the people fled the village as they feared the army. Until now, they didn’t dare to return to their home,” a local man said on May 3rd.
On May 1st, the military council troops set fire to around 70 houses and a monastery in Myaing Township in Magway Region,
“The soldiers burned down a monastery and more than 70 houses in Ywathit village in Myaing. They first destroyed the refrigerator and other materials from the monastery. Then, they torched the houses in the village. We can do nothing. We fled to safer places when they entered the village,” a local from Ywathit village.
Since the coup on February 1st, 2021 till April 30th, 2022, the military burned down 11,417 houses across the country.
The Data for Myanmar compiled the lists from around 296 places. The number of the houses burned in May is not included in the list.
The military burned down 7,503 houses in Sagaing Region, 2,131 in Magway Region, 1,174 in Chin State and 407 in Karenni (Kayah) State.
In addition, the Data for Myanamr also released the lists of the houses burned down by the military council troops in southern Shan State, Mandalay Region, Tanintharyi Region, Bago Region (East), Karen State and Kachin State.
Data for Myanamr released the lists of the houses burned down by the military from February 1st, 2021 and April, 2022. However, the actual number on the ground may be higher than that.
