Brigade-6 of the Karen National Union (KNU) issued the rules for travellers in Dupalaryar District (Brigade-6) on April 18th.
The KNU’s Brigade-6 will allow the people to travel from 6 am to 7 pm only.
The travellers are required to accept the relevant organization’s inspection and to keep car doors open. Those who travel by motorbike need to put off their helmets, the statement says.
“The main point is the civilians need to stay away from the military council as the military council troops usually use the civilians as a cover. Kawkareik-Myawaddy Asia Road and Myawaddy-Wawlay Road remain closed. This order is issued by the District Standing Committee,” said Padoh Saw Taw Nee, head of the Foreign Affairs of the KNU.
Locals need to coordinate with relevant officials if they have to travel for their duties and health reasons.
The KNU’s Brigade-6 will take action against those who fail to abide by the rules. The order will remain in place until further notice.
There were clashes between the Tatmadaw and a combined force of the KNU and the People’s Defense Force (PDF) on the roads in the recent days, resulting in some civilian casualties and the destruction of passenger buses and cargo trucks.
