The military council troops burned down seven houses and two community-owned houses used for meetings, in Thinam village on Hakha-Gangaw Road in Hakha Township in Chin State at around 10 am on March 28th, according to a local from Thinam village.

On March 26th, a military column of around 150 soldiers entered Thinam village and spent two nights at the Baptist Church and the Believers Church. They burned down the houses before leaving for Larmthoke village on March 28th.

Thinam village located about 36 miles from Hakha, has 105 households and a population of around 700.

The people in the village fled to the forests as they got information before the soldiers entered the village, a local said.

“We have to take shelter in the forests. There are around six groups here. Some people are hiding near the creek. We have been hiding here for around one week. Youths told us to continue to stay here as the latest situation is still unknown. Among the refugees are patients. There are around five patients. Some patients are in critical condition. We have to stay here as we don’t dare to return to our homes,” a local said.

The military column headed to Hakha-Gangaw Road on March 17th. There was fighting between the military council troops and a combined force of the Chin National Army (CNA) and the Chinland Defense Force (CDF)-Hakha, in Zokhwar and Ywaban villages within a few days after the military column headed to the villages.

Due to the fighting, locals from Nipi, Zokhwar, Ywaban, Thinam and Marsaw villages on Hakha-Gangaw Road are hiding in the forests.
