In addition to the military preparations, the military council is carrying out increased deployments of troops in Katha Township in Sagaing Region after an internet blackout since March 3rd, according to the ground information.
A local said: “I notice the entry of strangers by passenger buses. As a matter of fact, it is not a coincidence. It is certain that the soldiers have entered the region.”
At around 8.30 pm on March 8th, a 12-wheel vehicle loaded with more than 100 soldiers entered Katha via Nabar. These soldiers are deployed at monasteries in some townships in the upper Katha.
A local who declined to be named said: “The military hardly carried out the deployments of troops by land. We see the influx of people by 12-wheel cars and small cars following the internet shutdown.”
On March 1st, the military council conducted a practical mine course for Pyu Saw Htee, pro-military supporters and informants in the compound of No.2 Katha Police Station.
Locals are worried about the entry of more strangers into the region.
At present, Katha faces frequent power blackouts. The news that there will be a total power cut in Katha Township from March 11st to 15th, is being spread among locals in Katha.
There are 52 townships in Sagaing Region. Except Monywa, Shwebo and Kalay Townships, the military council has cut off internet access in the remaining townships.
