Seven civilians including a two-year child were killed and four others seriously injured by the heavy shelling fired by Hpapon-based military council troops, in Kalawday village in Malkalaw village-tract in Butho Township in Mutraw (Hpapun) District, according to the statement by the Karen Peace Social Network (KPSN).
At around 7.20 pm on March 5th, the artillery shelling killed seven civilians—five females and two males—including a two-year-old girl, a five-year-old girl and a pregnant woman.
“The military from Hpapun fired heavy shells when the villagers returned to the village to sleep. Artillery shelling killed seven persons and seriously injured four others. Among the injured is a three-year-old child,” Naw Wah Khu Shee, Spokesperson of the KPSN told the KIC.
This is not the first time the military has conducted targeted attacks on the civilians. The military council always conducts such attacks. As these acts amount to committing international crimes, we have constantly called on the international community to impose economic sanctions on the junta.
The victims who were killed in the artillery shelling are: Naw Tar Lu,2, Naw Htoo Phaw,5, Tin Nilar Win, 14, Saw Day Phoe, 19, Saw Kay, 40, Naw Al Mu, 22, and Naw Phaw War, 32. Those who were seriously injured are Saw Kyaw Bee,3, Naw Sa Paw, 17, Naw Kali Sae, 28, and Maung Nyo Htoo, 28.
On February 4th, two villagers were killed and six others including a child injured by the military council’s bombardment in Tadwankhoe village in Marhtaw village-tract in Dwelo Township in Mutraw (Hpapun) District.
On January 29th, a combined force of the junta troops and the Border Guard Force (BGF) based in Taungthonelone military camp in Mutraw (Hpapun) District, fired artillery shells into Hteekawthihtar village. A three-month-old child and a 20-year-old girl were killed and five others injured.
