The junta troops fired heavy shells into a place on the Thai-Myanmar border, said U Aung San Myint, the Spokesperson of the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP).

“There is no clash. They indiscriminately fired heavy shells. Dawtakhae is located near the border,” he said.

Although there was no clash between the military council troops and the KNPP, the junta troops carried out indiscriminate firing of heavy shells on the morning of February 8th. The junta troops fired heavy shells into Dawtakhae in Shardaw Township on the east bank of the Thanlwin River. The Karenni IDPs are taking shelter in Dawtakhae.

“The IDPs are taking shelter near the Thai-Myanmar border. The junta troops constantly fired heavy shells for their security concern as we seized a military camp last month,” he continued.

“Fighting took place for around 30 minutes on February 3rd. According to the ground information, the commanders said six or seven soldiers of the military council were killed in the ambush. On January 7th, we seized a military outpost. Since then, there have been no reports of fighting.” he added.

Seven soldiers of the military council including an officer were killed and four injured in a clash between the military council troops and the Karenni Army (KA) on the Myanmar-Thai border on February 3rd, according to the statement by the Karenni Army Center (Kn.A.C).

In the first week of February, there were four clashes between the military council’s troops and a combined force of the KA and the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF), in Karenni State, killing at least 16 soldiers of the military council, according to the KNDF’s statement.
