Detained heath staff from Paletwa loses contact with his family

Family members of Ko Tin Tun Aung who has been charged by the military council under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code are concerned as they have lost contact with him for around one months.

The authorities arrested Ko Tin Tun Aung who is a health staff member from Paletwa Township of Chin State on December 28th last year as he said a white flag was raised on the hill of the Light Infantry Battalion-285 in Paletwa in an interview with the Western News.

The police released another man. The case was filed against him at the Paletwa Township Police Station, according to his family.

U Min Aung, the elder brother of Ko Tin Tun Aung said: “We don’t know his situation. We don’t know where he is being detained. He has been in detention for 24 days. On January 12nd, he was sent to Sittwe via Paletwa. He was remanded in custody till January 27th.”

We can send food to him if he is in jail. My mother is very concerned about him every day. My brother, I and my mother live together at home.”

In addition, Major Phone Myint Kyaw from the military has filed a case against the chief editor from the Western News and a reporter, at Sittwe District Court for the news coverage on the raising of a white flag at Paletwa military outpost.

Currently, staff from the Western News have gone into hiding.
