The Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) strongly condemns the military council’s massacre of the Karenni civilians, said Khu Daniel, Secretary-1 of the KNPP.

“To be exact, we must respond to it to the limit. We will make the strongest response. As we have already said we are synonymous with the public, we make a response on behalf of the public,” Khu Daniel added.

The KNPP issued a statement on December 26th, strongly condemning the military council’s massacre of Karenni people on December 24th. The KNPP also called on the UN and international communities to take actions against the military council.

“There have been demands from the international community. For instance, the Arakan issue, the Rohingya issue. The whole world also knows the situations that happened after the coup. The UN needs to deal with that case in harmony. Social organizations and other organizations are working for the international pressures on the junta,” he continued.

On December 24th, the soldiers under the Light Infantry Battalion-108 under the Division-66 of the military council, arrested 35 fleeing locals near Moso village in Phruso Township in Karenni State. Then, the junta troops burned them alive by pouring petrol.

Four members of the Karenni National People’s Liberation Front (KNPLF)-turned-Border Guard Force who tried to negotiate the freeing of the detainees, were tied up and shot dead by the junta troops.

The military council flagrantly violated the law on the battlefield, with the genocidal intent, the KNPP says.

The KNPP also called on the international community and the UN to take stern actions against and impose sanctions on the military council, as quickly as possible.
