The National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) is planning to convene the people’s congress in December, according to the NUCC’s first press conference on November 16th.

U Khant Wai Phyo from Monywa Public’s Strike Leading Committee said: “The NUCC will convene the people’s congress every six months according to the interim constitution which is the part-2 of the federal democratic charter. The NUCC shall convene the first people’s congress with the participation of the forces which want to end the military dictatorship and establish the federal democratic union. The NUCC will implement three tasks—the extension of the NUCC, the approval of the federal democratic charter-part-1 and the measures pertaining to the interim constitution and the approval of the National Unity Government (NUG) formed by the NUCC.”
The NUCC has prepared for operational guidelines in order to invite the forces which want to end the military dictatorship and build up a federal democratic union. The NUCC will release the patterns in which the people and groups can participate.
At the press conference, officials explained the formation of teams in the respective sectors. The NUCC constitutes representatives from five forces and 28 various political institutions.
The five forces are: the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), political parties, the Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs), the State Consultative Councils and the anti-coup forces.
The NUCC is composed of eight EAOs such as the Karen National Union (KNU), the Chin National Front (CNF) and the Karen National Progressive Party (KNPP).
The NUCC declined to reveal the names of five EAOs.
The NUCC was initially founded with four groups on March 8th. The formation of the NUG was followed. Later, the CRPH released the federal democratic charter.
