Military council’s members pretended themselves as refugees by wearing normal clothes and blanketing waterproof nylon shelter. Then they attacked Mindat Civilian Defense Force (Mindat-CDF) near Bukwne village, Mindat township, around 2 PM of May 21, and one CDF member reportedly died and nine were injured.
“Military personnel were blanketing with waterproof nylon shelters, and they were without uniforms but with guns. Because of these nylon shelters, our watchmen had thought they were refugees. But when they arrived nearer, we had been unexpectedly attacked. Later they used the heavy weapons in that battle. We faced certain difficulties since the rain was dropping at that time and our traditional (hunting) rifles also did not work well. Therefore, one of our members died and nine have been injured. Three military personnel also died,” recounted a responsible person of Mindat-CDF.
He added that there were around 100 military personnel used in yesterday’s fighting. The fighting lasted from 2 PM to 6 PM.
Today, 22 May 2021, since the military council sent military reinforcement to Bukwne village, there have now been more than 100 personnel near Htin stream on the north-eastern part of Mindat and there is the potential to have more fighting soon.
Bukwne village is located in Chi-Chaung area between Mindat and Kanpetlet and there is one IDP camp in Madat village near Bukwne.
