At around 8 am on 23 March, junta soldiers entered six villages including Myakan village in KhinU Township in Sagaing Region.

Around 2,000 locals from six villages fled for safety as soldiers killed one civilian from Myakan village and burned houses, according to locals.

“U Nyo, 65, was killed by junta soldiers while he was preparing to flee by motorbike,” a local said.

Locals from six villages near Myakan village have fled to safer places. Junta soldiers left Myakan village for Ywathitkone village at around 10 am. Junta soldiers entered other villages by firing heavy shells near the fuel station in the south of Inpark turn at around 11 am, locals said.

A local woman said: “Junta soldiers enter the village from four corners. We have moved to another place. I heard that soldiers reach between Inpark and Chantharkone village.”

The military council is conducting extensive operations in villages of Sagaing Region. Due to the military council’s arsons and the killings of villagers, locals fled to safer places.

Since late February, martial law was declared in Ayardaw, Wetlet, Shwebo, Indaw, Banmauk, Kawlin, Pinlebu, Myaung, Salingyi, Pale, Yinmarbin, KhinU, Taze and YeU Townships.

According to the statement by the UNOCHA, there are nearly one million IDPs in north-west of Myanmar including Sagaing Region.
