Military council troops have entered and taken up positions in Manhe village in Indaw Township, Sagaing Region, according to local news sources.

A column of about 100 junta soldiers in civilian vehicles unexpectedly entered the village around 4 pm on 22 March and detained at least 20 civilians, a People’s Defense Forces-Indaw official told KNG.

“They entered the village unexpectedly. We heard it was because of a military informant. They didn’t arrest all the villages, but they did it selectively. They also searched houses,” he said.

The resistance official further said that at least 20 civilians were detained in the monastery of Manhe village and the regime’s soldiers did not allow villagers to leave their village.

“We tried to reach the village by phone, but we couldn’t. We heard that they don’t allow villagers to leave the village,” he said.

Manhe village, with about 100 households, is located on the border between Indaw Township and Kachin State.

The Myanmar Army is conducting military activities in Indaw Township in two separate columns and its soldiers are stationed in the areas including Nantthar and Naryakhaung villages, according to locals.

The regime army has frequently made arbitrary arrests and detained local residents as human shields in the area.
