The National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) held a meeting with three Ethnic Army Organizations (EAOs) in Nay Pyi Taw on the afternoon of March 22, to hold the peace conference and election.

Three EAOs which attended the meeting are: Members of Northern Alliance— United Wa State Party (UWSP), the National Democratic Alliance Army (NDAA), the Shan State Progressive Party (SSPP).

The meeting mainly focused on the demands made by each group, regional development, regional stability, election, peace conference and the amendments to the basic sections of the 2008 Constitution.

U Than Soe Naing, a political analyst said: “To sum up, Wa group continues to support China’s stand on Myanmar. The Northern Alliance held a talk with the military council over their regional rights and interests regarding China’s demands for neutrality in the attacks on the military council in the Spring Revolution and not cooperation with the National Unity Government (NUG) in the anti-dictatorship movement. The military council coordinates the Northern Alliance’s demands for its requests and interests and relaxes its rules to a certain extent as it worries that Wa group will join the Spring Revolution. In my view, the military council holds peace talks and discussions in order to persuade the Wa group not to join the Spring Revolution.”

On 23 March, both sides will again meet and sign the agreement.
