Military council’s arson forces Wakone villagers to flee

All villagers have fled to safer places as the military council torched Wakone village in Ashae Taw village in Dawei Township of Tanintharyi Region for no apparent reason, local defense forces told the Than Lwin Times.

A military column of around 60 soldiers entered Wakone village at around 6 am on January 8 and torched 15 houses. The junta soldiers looted valuables from the houses before torching the houses.

On January 7, there was a clash between the military council and a combined People’s Defense Force (PDF) between Thingantone and Wakone villages. The military burned down Wakone village as it suffered heavy casualties.

According to the report released by the Southern Monitor, a research organization on January 7, a total of 188 houses were burned down by the military in Tanintharyi Region from September to December, 2022.

Palaw Township tops the list of burnt houses with 115. A combined force of the military council and its subordinate organizations burned down the houses.
