Combined force arrests Waingmaw locals for alleged links with the KIA

December 15th, 2021

A combined force of the military council’s troops and members of the militia force is carrying out the arrests of civilians in Wuyan village in Waingmaw Township in Kachin State, for alleged links with the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), according to locals.

A local who declined to be named said: “On the morning of December 14th, the military council’s troops arrested a man at the morning market in Wuyan village. In the evening, they were searching another one. I don’t know why they are trying to arrest him.”

At around 1 pm today, the junta’s troops tried to arrest a man from Wuyan village. But he managed to escape, according to locals.

The man detained at the market is Ko Khun Aung,30, from Warshaung village. It is still unknown where he is taken to. A combined force of the junta’s troops and Lisu People’s Militia Force are searching the civilians due to the tip-off from military informants, he added.

Since November, the Lisu People’s Militia Force has opened an inspection gate in Wuyan village in Waingmaw Township.

The militia force is carrying out the inspection of travellers and the collection of money, according to locals.

The arrests of civilians and opening of the inspection gate come after the KIA attacked No.58 Battalion and Balaminhtin inspection gate in the recent months.
