Mother and two sons seriously wounded by shelling in Demoso

A 30-year-old woman and her two sons under five were seriously wounded by the military council’s artillery shelling in Demoso Township at around 8.30 pm on January 22.

The mother got wounds to her legs. Her elder son got minor injuries. But the shelling cut off the knee, leg and thumb of two-year-old youngest son, the grandfather said.

The heavy shell directly fell on the house’s roof and then burned the house.

The injured are not in critical condition. The grandfather of the victims said that he is worried about the future of his grandchildren.

In addition, the heavy shells fired by the military council landed in some villages, destroying two houses and cutting off the left leg of a cow.

Since 4.30 am on January 21, there was a clash between the military council troops and the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) in the eastern part of Demoso Township, according to locals.

The clashes are reported between the KNDF and the military council which has been conducting an offensive along 6th mile model village in Demoso Township since early January, according to an information officer of the KNDF.

“Heavy shells fell in the eastern part of Demoso. The military council is carrying out an offensive at the 6th mile,” he said.

Since the evening of January 22 till the morning of January 23, the Light Infantry Battalion-102 based in Demoso was carrying out constant artillery shelling.

From 1 to 22 January, 2023, according to the data collected by the Kantarawaddy Times (KT), the heavy shelling killed four civilians and wounded at least 11 people including children in Karenni State and on the Shan-Karenni border.
