The military council torched Shatpone village in Palaw Township in Tanintharyi Region since the morning of January 19, locals told the Than Lwin Times.
Following the clash between the military council troops and the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) in Shatpone village over the recent days, the military council deployed more troops. The military started torching the abandoned houses in Ywaphyar ward.
Currently, nine houses were burned down. Locals fled to plantations and safer places.
According to locals, the junta soldiers are torching abandoned houses without any battles. Now they remain stationed in the village.
On January 16, four people were killed in an attack on the military council soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee stationed in Shatpone village. The PDFs seized some weapons and related materials.
On the morning of January 19, the combined force of PDFs ambushed a military column heading to a village in Pala, Palaw Township. The number of casualties is still unknown, the information officer of Myeik District Battalion-1 said.
Since the first week of January, fighting has been taking place between the military council troops and local defense forces in Palaw Township in Tanintharyi Region.
